Derek Duncan is Professor of Italian at the University
of St Andrews. He has published extensively on gender and sexuality in Italian
literature and film. He is the author of Reading and Writing Italian
Homosexuality: a case of possible difference (Ashgate 2005), and has
Encounters: European Travel Writing in the 1930s (Berghahn
2002), The Legacy and Memory of Italian Colonialism (Peter Lang 2005),
and National Belongings: Hybridity in
Italian Colonial and Postcolonial Culture (Peter Lang, 2010). He is currently working on a monograph on
Italian cinema that looks at recent films about migration from the dual perspectives of Postcolonial and Queer Studies . He
is also involved in a number of collaborative projects with colleagues in the
UK, USA, and Italy and is Senior Editor of the Cultural Studies issue of the
long-established journal Italian Studies.
